Gary Dandreaux, Ph.D., is the founder, president, and principal consultant of Polaris Chemical Consulting LLC.  He received a B.S. in Engineering Chemistry from S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering/Polymers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He is an author and coauthor on numerous U.S. and International Patents.

Gary has over 35 years experience in the chemicals and coatings industries which includes chemist/scientist positions (both supervisory and non-supervisory) at GAF Chemicals Corporation (which was taken public as International Specialty Products in 1991), Arizona Chemical Company (a division of International Paper Company which was acquired by Kraton Corporation in 2016), and Sun Chemical Corporation.  Most recently he was at Benjamin Moore for 18 years where he started as a senior scientist and rose through the ranks to the level of Vice President of R&D and Product Development.  Gary was in the VP position from 2018-2023 and was responsible for all aspects of Bejamin Moore’s R&D and Product Development efforts. 

Gary’s technical experience includes work in the areas of

• Architectural and industrial maintenance coatings product upgrades and scale ups
• Emulsion (latex) polymer development and scale up
• Emulsion polymer evaluation and application
• Development of second sources of raw materials for business risk mitigation
• Evaluations of new raw materials and technologies for paints and coatings
• Other coatings including paper and paperboard coatings, adhesives and inks
• Monomer synthesis and application
• Water soluble polymer synthesis and application
• Tackifier synthesis and aqueous dispersion of tackifiers
